Good waterproofer

This waterproofer works as described, and it follows the matching Saddle Soap (also a great product!). This will last for a very, very long time. The only negative for me (and it’s just a personal preference), is I don’t like the cardboard jar. I’m willing to bet the majority of the customer base using this agrees, but maybe I’m wrong. I’m super thankful it’s made in the USA and it’s a great product! Buy with confidence.

Very hard wax, no applicator included

I ordered this Rhino Wax - Premium Leather Boot Waterproofing Wax (4oz) - Waterproofer for Leather Shoes, Boots, Gloves - Made in USA for waterproofing and nourishing a variety of boots we own in our family. Normally, we use this Wonder Balsam. Both products have similar ingredients, but instead of having Castor oil as one of the main ingredients as in the Rhino Wax, the Wonder Balsam has Coconut Oil. This Rhino Wax does not come with an applicator, so I had to use the sponge included with the Wonder Balsam to apply it to my boots. It was pretty difficult to do because the Rhino Wax is very hard. I went very slowly because I could barely get any of the product from the container on my sponge. Another drawback is the container. I understand that the materials are environmentally friendly, which is great; however, I don’t see why that should excuse a lid that keeps coming apart. This wax does seem to nourish the leather of my boots. I have uploaded a photo that shows my left untreated boot and the right boot with the Rhine Wax applied. There is a clear difference. To see whether it decently waterproofs we’ll have to see come winter.

Works great! A little maintenance goes a long way.

This waterproofer wax is somewhat similar to the conditioner, but it has lanolin to create a waterproof barrier on the leather. It’s easy to work with, doesn’t have any weird smell. I used a microfiber towel to apply the waterproofer and massaged it into the leather really well, making sure I got it into every square inch. Worked in small sections. (I stuffed the backpack with bubble wrap to fill out its shape, so it wouldn’t fold in on itself.) After letting it dry for a little more than 24 hours, I tested it by dribbling some water on it. The water beaded up just as it should. Success! The leather actually got more supple after a few extra days of drying time.I’ve been very pleased with the quality and performance of Rhino Wax products. Each product nourished the leather, so the cumulative effect was that I now have a backpack that I can use again, the leather is rejuvenated. Yes, it takes some time to go through all the steps but the time and effort you actually put in is minimal, it’s the hours needed for drying that is time consuming. And you can see that the results are well worth it! But I was resuscitating a 20 (?) year old backpack. Maintaining shoes and boots would be much easier. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Sometimes you think a shoe needs polish and really all it needs is a little TLC. Highly, highly recommend Rhino Wax!

The kit was super easy to use, with clear instructions for each item. The cloth was a great help, though I’m a little bummed there weren’t two so that one could be used for oiling and the other for cleaning. I haven’t had a chance to use the boot scrub yet because I prepped all my boots with oil and waterproof spray before I wore them, but I can already tell the leather is softer, and the waterproofing is doing its job.

Great, effective, all natural waterproofer

I like that the packaging on this isn’t going to harm much in a landfill, and the product is made in the US! I use this on my hiking boots and it makes them like new if not better. My dad used to put it on and set our boots in the furnace closet to dry for a day or two - I still do the same thing. This stuff is a great waterproofer and protectant. I also use it on my leather gloves. Keeps them like new!

Leather Boot wax

I've rubbed this wax into a pair of my old leather boots and it seems to really soak in good and provides a water repellent surface that feels like it'll last at least a season.

Fabulous!!

I received this waterproof product through the Amazon Vine Voice program. This is really fabulous for all things leather when used properly. It is also simple with natural ingredients that work very well! Plus, you can revive your leather goods with proper care and get ultimate use out of them. I would repurchase this product again and recommend to others without hesitation.

great product

I recently got this whole product line for my boyfriend to use on his work boots and he really likes it. The ingredients are all natural and no chemicals, so no worries about getting it on your skin or anything. I especially like that that the items that don't need to be in plastic bottles, are in cardboard, so there is less plastic use. I have been trying to use less plastic in our home, so this is a huge bonus in my book.

Quality Ingredients

This is a great wax for protecting leather work boots from the elements. I love how only basic quality ingredients are used and the packaging is better for the environment once the wax is gone. And that a portion of all sales goes to the World Wildlife Fund (a great organization), is such a bonus and speaks well of the company. It's not a very large jar but is easy to apply on my boots with plenty left over another coat later or for another item.

Waterproof wax for my boots

I have some old boots that I love too much and this wax helps me keep it longer. It went on easily enough, have to rub it in with a cloth. I left it for 24 hours and it was fine after that. I don't kniw how long it will last but I plan to use it on my boots every 3 months to upkeep it.You get a lot of wax in this little container and it goes a ling way for my boots but maybe for some other types it might be used up faster. I think it depends on how much is needed for a person's boots.

Soaks in well

My wife used this Rhino Wax to waterproof her purse after cleaning it with the Rhino Glove Cleaner. The cleaner worked incredibly - I posted a before and after of it ans it looks almost new again. She applied the Rhino Wax using her hands. At first it felt too oily. Then she rubbed it in with a dry cloth and let it sit. Now the purse is not oily and instead feels clean and supple again. Leather boots, here we come!

Soft, odorless wax for waterproofing

Good product for waterproofing leather boots and shoes. Leaves a slightly tacky clear finish which quickly melts into the leather.Goes on very smoothly and with little effort if it is slightly warm. Even better if the leather has been brought to warm or even hotter by leaving it in the sun or in a warm room for a few minutes.Doesn't seem to change the color of the leather too much--a bit darker perhaps but returned to original color within a day or so.Obviously important to apply this properly for it to work as you want, complete instructions in english are in tiny letters on the package--bring a magnifying glass! OR, as I have learned, take a picture and zoom in on your phone screen!

Quality product, 100% natural

4 oz of "All natural, Handmade, Chemical free" leather waterproofer. Gotta like that !I'm a great believer in looking after my good quality leather boots. If my feet are happy, I"m happy.Keeping my feet dry adds to that happiness while helping to lengthen the lifespan of my boots.I've used other silicone based products for years. Unfortunately, as we're heading into summer, it's not likely I'll be wearing my heavier winter boots for awhile so I can't really compare effectiveness until I'm out and about in the snow once again. In the meantime, I have treated my boots and will give the wax a good long time to soak into the leather before buffing any excess off and storing my boots for the summer. If this wax works well, I will be very happy to support an American based company.A couple of things that could be improved:- the instructions are in very small type and very hard to read ! (Maybe reversing the colors [tan letters on a dark brown background] would make that easier?)- I imagine, based on my experience with leather, that this product might be fine for full grain leathers but not suitable for suedes? If so, the instructions should perhaps clarify this.

A great leather treatment

I am reviewing “Rhino Wax - Premium Leather Boot Waterproofing Wax (4oz) - Waterproofer for Leather Shoes, Boots, Gloves - Made in USA”. This wonderful product only has 3 ingredients: beeswax, lanolin, and castor oil. It is packaged in a biodegradable box and container. Directions say to use a brush to apply the wax to leather, but I used my fingers because the product is so high quality, and I don’t mind getting it on my skin. With all the quality ingredients they use, maybe Rhino Wax can expand into making products like lip balm and body/hand moisturizers. They already make products such as nose and paw balm for dogs!It can darken some leathers, so test it first if you don’t want to chance your shoes or boots turning darker. I used this product on my black leather boots with excellent results! I love Rhino Wax products and they are made in the USA. I also appreciate their commitment to environmental conservation. My only concern is if you order this product during summertime: will it melt during transport or while sitting on my front porch in the sun?

Excellent System For Leather Care

I recently used all four Rhino Wax products (leather cleaner, leather oil, leather conditioner, and leather waterproofer) to care for a pair of motorcycle boots. Overall, I’m very satisfied with the results.Since this review is for Rhino’s leather waterproofer, I’ll start by focusing on it. The waterproofer is made from beeswax, lanolin and castor oil. The product is hard (like beeswax) and I found easier to apply after warming it for a few seconds in a microwave. It didn’t take much to condition my boots. Since the ingredients are all natural, I had no concerns about getting it on my hands. I used a small horsehair shoe brush to work the waterproofer into the leather and was happy with that approach. There are a few pros and cons for Rhino Wax products:1. The products are made in the USA and use eco-sensitive packaging. For some people those are two huge plusses.2. Given the drying times between products, it takes at least two or three days to complete the process. In my case, each individual step required about five minutes of work to apply the product and 6 to 12 hours of wait time.3. Finally, Rhino Wax sells different products for leather care and baseball glove care. As far as I can tell the two product lines are identical (Leather Cleaner is the same as Glove Cleaner, Leather Oil is the same as Glove Oil, Leather Conditioner is the same as Glove Conditioner). For example, this product came in a box labeled "Leather Waterproofer" but the actual container is labeled "Glove Wax." It would be less confusing if they gave identical products the same names and simply expanded the list of uses.

The right tool for the job if your boots get wet

Rhino Wax is good stuff. When I lived in Portland, Oregon where it rains constantly I used it to keep my boots looking good despite wearing them to slog through the elements every day. I've also used it on my Sorel mountain boots to keep the leather uppers from getting discolored and hammered from road salt, snow, etc. It works great for any type of similar element. I know you've seen leather boots and shoes that have not been cared for after they repeatedly get wet, muddy, snow covered, etc. They're nasty. This fine product keeps the water from soaking into your leather and keeps it looking and feeling good. Even better--they use zero waste package and support the World Wildlife Fund. Highly recommended!!

Rhino is the best boot care system!

Used all the products according to instructions and the boots are water resistant, almost water proof! They clean up quick and easy with a brush. This is the best leather care system I’ve ever used. My husband said better than Uncle Sam! So there you have it! Boots look like new, the product is virtually odorless! Easy to use!

Messy stuff! Don’t bother! It doesn’t work.

It took me 3hrs and 3oz of this stuff to do a 2xl leather motorcycle jacket! I used a wooden spatula to apply and rub in the wax, then cleaned off any excess with a microfiber cloth. It still manages to rub off, it got on my motorcycle tank from leaning on it also my helmet. I’m going to wipe down with another cloth, hopefully that will help! geez this is messy stuff! I’ll update this in a few days.Update: this stuff is completely worthless! It does not form a waterproof barrier for my leather jacket. So now my jacket is waxy and wet. If I could give negative stars I would!

It is very firm

The product works well and my boots look beautiful but be prepared for a workout. This wax as practically a candle so have something available to run across the surface (stiff brush, spoon, butter knife) so product can be picked up and applied.

It works.

The wax is a little difficult to apply, but after I let it dry, I tested it to see if the leather was waterproof and the water just rolled off. I used a soft mustache brush to apply it as well as my fingers. I tried putting it in a microwave, but only used it for 15-20 seconds. I didn't want to melt it, as I was afraid that I would alter the texture, but it didn't soften much. I was also happy that it didn't change the color of my bag, which is a cordovan (tan) color. All in all, very happy with the results.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I properly care for leather boots?

Leather boots should be cleaned regularly, conditioned to keep the leather supple, and protected to prevent drying, cracking, and water damage.

How often should I condition leather boots?

Condition boots every 2–4 weeks, or more often if they’re exposed to wet conditions, dirt, or heavy use. If leather feels stiff or looks dry, it’s time to condition.

How do I clean leather boots before conditioning?

Brush off dirt and debris, wipe with a damp cloth or leather-safe cleaner, and allow the boots to fully dry before applying conditioner.

Is Rhino Wax leather care safe for all boots?

Rhino Wax leather care products are safe for most smooth leather boots. Always test on a small, hidden area first, especially on suede or specialty leathers.
