Gave My Year-Old Pizza Peel A Golden Glow

The aluminum container of Rhino Wax Coconut Cutting Board Wax was shipped in a soft pack that looked like it had been run over and one side of the container was crushed. It took some effort to unscrew the lid, but I was then able to gently bend both the lid and the container back into usable shape using needle nose pliers. The wax inside has a sunflower yellow color and smells yummy. The wax is meant to be applied over cutting board oil and re-applied whenever the wood appears dry and the color has faded. I tried it without oil on a simple board made from cherry wood. It gave the wood a deep glow and a very slight lemon scent. The wax is food grade. It spreads over the wood very smoothly and it doesn't take much to cover a large area. I don't make many cutting boards, but I do make wooden pizza peels that need to be food safe as well. I had used mineral oil on the peels when I made them, but it had been about a year and they were drying out. I used the Rhino Wax on my favorite peel and took pictures comparing the unwaxed and waxed sides. Then I waxed the entire peel since I liked how it made the wood glow. The instructions printed on the bottom of the container say to allow the wax to penetrate the wood, but doesn't give any indication how long this should take. The internet recommends 15-30 minutes before buffing the board, so I let the wax soak in for half an hour for each side.Since the wax is food safe, I tasted some and it has a flavor similar to lemon curd.

"Step 3" Confusing label but it does the job intended.

We exclusively use wood/bamboo cutting boards of all shapes and sizes. For years, we just treat our boards with canola oil, and it seems to work just fine. We had no idea that a wax was made specifically for wood cutting boards until this product popped up. We were really excited to treat our boards with this wax. After reading the instructions, this wax is used (step 2) after you apply step 1 (oil) on your board. What confuses me is that on the label of this product is says "STEP 3." I think this was a misprint from the manufacturer who is now offering this product on Vine for reviews. Nevertheless, we don't have the oil from this company, so we used our canola oil. The wax has a citrus scent (contains orange and lemon oils) and beeswax. Once you turn the stick, it is not retractable so only push up the amount you intend to use. Truth be told, we will probably not reorder this product after we use up the stick and instead slather on coconut oil (which is part of the ingredient list) if want that extra coat to protect our cutting boards, though it is convenient to have this stick. This product is made in the USA.

Good Wax, Much Softer Than I Was Expecting

I wanted to try this cutting board wax to keep my cutting boards fresh and looking good. I routinely oil them, but I never heard of applying wax so I figured I'd give it a shot. This wax had both some pros and cons...Pros: The smell is absolutely amazing. It is like a citrus grove in your kitchen. The packaging is not made from plastic, the ingredients are 100% natural, and it's made in the USA. After applying the wax, my cutting board had a nice new shine to it and there was is no messy residue after the application process and wiping the excess off.Cons: The wax is MUCH softer than I was expecting. I was thinking it would be a hard wax similar to surfboard wax, but this stuff is more like a petroleum jelly feel. Obviously it's not petroleum jelly! But when I went to apply it for the first time, it smeared and left large chunks. I thought I'd use the entire stick if I kept applying it this way. So what I did is used my fingers for a Karate Kid style wax on wax off application and it seemed to do the job. The one other gripe I had was that the directions both on the product and on the Amazon product page do not have the best instructions. I thought it would be easy, and it was, but what I believe is missing is how long to keep the wax on for before removing the excess. I left it on for 10 minutes and then wiped it off, which wasn't an issue, but I would like to know if I left it on long enough.Overall, this is a good product that smells nice and so far, made my cutting board look newer.

Premium cutting board wax

I was super happy, and surprised! to see this Rhino Cutting Board Wax in my selections and jumped on it right away because I know this is a great brand. I had purchased a new cutting board recently and they suggested mineral oil but I didn't really want to use that so am using this instead. It is a blend of oils but doesn't include mineral oil (according to the info) Comes in a small shoe polish size round tin which is super handy for storage. There is 4 ounces, which doesn't seem like a lot but honestly a little goes a long way so it is a good value. The wax is easy to apply but you need to make sure you don't put a ton on as it will be hard to get off. There is coconut oil in there so there is a smell of that but it is also not unpleasant or overpowering. Made from a food safe wax and Yay!! it is Made in The USA! hydrate and protect your boards

So I do not have a countertop or non-removeable butcher block that can't go to the sink which I think this ideally targeted at. But it also lists cutting boards as well as a target product for this.I do have an excellent board that I have used for a decade without failure that recently has developed a garlic and onion aroma that I can't get rid of even with scrubbing and soaking with white vinegar (which has historically worked) so I thought this product was ideal to fix it.Historically I clean my board with hot water and soap after use, and then protect it with a food grade wax and oil. This product claims to do that last step - the oil helps protect the wood and hydrates it.I think that is accurate. This tin contains coconut oil, palm oil, and vitamin-E as well as beeswax and carnauba wax to soak in and protect the wood. It also has lemon and orange oils to assist in making a hard used cutting board smell better. It goes on smoothly and once you work it into the board it hydrates it visually as well as makes it smell better. the lemon and orange oils are quite strong (much stronger than what is in their cleaner product) but not unpleasant since it's citrus and not something outside the realm of cooking.

Much better results than traditional mineral oil treatments

I'd been taught to treat butchers blocks with just mineral oil, which always felt ineffective after a short period of time. When I learned I should have been applying a wax on top of that, it made total sense, so I picked up this Rhino Wax Coconut Cutting Board Wax (I chose the 2oz Tube) and gave it a try.Wow! Not only is this easy to use, it leaves the wood looking far better than just mineral oil alone (without leaving any greasy feel afterwards). It is easy to apply - it simply glides on (with a quite pleasant citrus scent) and all you have to do from there is spread it across the wood, let it sit, then buff it to a beautiful finish. It seems to last a while, too - nothing like the previous oil-only treatments. Even after a bit of use, it still has the smooth feel it did shortly after application.

Greasy when applied, dries and absorbs nicely

It's a bit pricier than the almond oil we use to maintain our bamboo cutting board. It was leaking when it arrived which made the packaging greasy, but I decided to try it anyway. It feels very greasy while applying it on the wood, and adds a lot of shine. We didn't use the board for the rest of the day to let it absorb and dry. Once it dried, the greasiness went away and the board did feel smoother than before application. So, it worked well as far as conditioning. I have no idea how long the conditioning is supposed to last, but I usually do a maintenance coat every few months. It's a good wood conditioner, just a bit pricey for me.

Revived my cutting boards nicely!

I like my cutting boards to have that deep, rich wood color, but with regular use, they can start to look a little dull. So I decided to try this 𝗥𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗼 𝗪𝗮𝘅 𝗖𝗼𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘂𝘁 𝗖𝘂𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗪𝗮𝘅 𝟰𝗼𝘇 (𝘈𝘚𝘐𝘕: 𝘉0𝘍287𝘚394). Like other waxes or balms, I applied it with a towel, let it sit overnight, and wiped it down the next morning. The boards looked great again. The wax went on slightly grainy, and I could still see some of my rub marks while it was soaking in, but after the wipe-down, it left a clean, rich finish that really brought the wood back to life. They suggest applying this after using their cutting board oil, but I skipped that step. This wax already includes plant-based oils, and it seemed to do everything I needed on its own. I’m not sure why you’d need both, but I’m not an expert. For around seven bucks, this feels like a solid value. It looks like it will last a while, and it seems like a better, more natural option than plain mineral oil. I’ll definitely keep it around for regular board upkeep.

Great scent and works well

I did not realize that there was care and maintenance with cutting boards. I assumed the dry and cracking was a normal part of having wood cutting boards. I was able to acquire both this wax as well as the applicator. I didn't realize when I ordered this that it was a three step product, but I just cleaned my board used a different cutting board oil I already had (and never used) and then used this product. I loved the scent of the product and I appreciate the plastic cap under the cardboard lid. You just need to twist up a little at a time and the edge of the cardboard will catch excess so I just rubbed the edges onto the cutting board to get the excess off. I let it sit for awhile, partly because I forgot about it and there wasn't much extra to wipe off. Even though I used the applicator, I had to move the board with my other hand and my hand felt very soft. I am quite pleased with this product and I look forward to doing more of our wood products.

Great cutting board wax!

This wax has a characteristic yellow hue and a pleasant aroma. It is certified food-safe. The wax is intended to be applied over existing cutting board oil and should be reapplied whenever the wood appears dry or the color has diminished. I tested it without oil on a wood cutting board, which resulted in a rich, luminous finish and a subtle lemon fragrance. The wax is food-grade and applies smoothly to the wood surface, requiring only a minimal amount to cover a large area. Although I do not produce many cutting boards, I often craft wooden pizza peels that also require food-safe finishes. Previously, I used mineral oil for the pizza peels; however, after approximately a year, some drying was observed. I applied Rhino Wax to my preferred pizza peel and took comparative photographs of the unwaxed and waxed sides. I then coated the entire peel, as I appreciated how the wax enhanced the wood’s natural luster. The label instructs allowing the wax to penetrate the wood but does not specify an optimal absorption time. Based on online recommendations, I allowed approximately 15 to 30 minutes for the wax to soak in on each side before buffing. This is a nice sized container of this wax, and I feel for the quality of the product that this is a good value.

Easy to use

I use the board oil from this same brand, and the wax is the perfect follow up for treating my cutting/charcuterie boards and wood utensils. Easy to use and effective at sealing/protecting the wood. It does add some sheen, but no greasiness as long as you buff it out and don't use too much. I like the lack of mineral oil/petroleum products and light citrus scent (doesn't linger and transfer to food). Works well for my needs.

Not plant based - contains beeswax

Haven’t used yet, but it says plant based when it contains beeswax, so it’s false advertising.

Your board will last you long time

The Rhino Wax Coconut Cutting Board Wax comes in a small, round tin that holds four ounces of a blended oil‑wax mixture. Inside the container is a creamy substance that contains coconut oil, palm oil, beeswax, carnauba wax, vitamin E, and citrus essential oils. The product is food‑safe and free from mineral oil, and the tin is designed to be easy to open and to protect the wax from drying out during storage. The wax’s color is a pale sunflower yellow that shifts to a richer amber once it has been applied and buffed onto wood. When applied, the wax spreads smoothly across a dry wooden surface with a towel or pad. A light, citrus aroma is released, but it does not overpower the room. The wax absorbs quickly into the grain, providing a subtle protective film that repels moisture. After the wax has soaked in—typically a few minutes—any excess is wiped away, leaving a dry, shiny finish that highlights the natural color of the board. The protective layer resists water and food splashes, reducing the need for frequent deep cleaning. After regular use, the treated wood retains a fuller, more vibrant appearance and feels softer to the touch. The wax does not leave a greasy residue, and because it is food‑grade, it can be left on surfaces that will contact food. The 4‑ounce size is economical for occasional use; a little product covers a large area and can be reapplied whenever the wood appears to be drying out or losing its luster. Overall, the product combines an easy‑to‑apply formula with a gentle scent and a visibly restorative finish for wooden cutting boards and other kitchen tools.

This Butcher Block Wax: A Total Win

You know those purchases you make on a whim that turn out to be unexpectedly brilliant? This butcher block wax was exactly that for me. Funnily enough, I didn't even buy it for my cutting boards initially. I was in the middle of refinishing some old coffee tables, battling a few stubborn rough patches, and I needed something to really smooth things out after a polyurethane bumpy finish needed fixed. Paired with a bit of steel wool, this wax worked absolute magic – those tables now gleam like new, it's truly stunning. After that success, I finally got around to using it on its intended target: my cutting boards. And honestly, it's now my go-to for anything bare wood-related. The texture is just lovely, so smooth and easy to work with. I simply rub it on with a clean cloth, let it sink in for a bit, and then buff it to a gorgeous, deep luster. My boards don't just look richer and deeply moisturized; you can feel the protection, almost like they've had a spa day. What really seals the deal for me is knowing exactly what's in it. No mineral oil here, just a thoughtful blend of natural oils and waxes, which gives me immense peace of mind, especially since it's going on surfaces that touch our food. Beyond the visual appeal, my boards now repel water beautifully and are a breeze to wipe clean after use. Oh, and the scent! It's such a clean, natural aroma – nothing synthetic or overpowering, just pure goodness. I've even branched out and started using it on my wooden spoons and a few pieces of furniture, and the results are consistently amazing. The transformation in how the wood looks and feels is immediate and genuinely impressive. Seriously, if you have any wooden items that could use a little TLC, you absolutely have to give this a try.

Helps restore old wood; watch the price

This product is a good addition to my cutting board care. Usually, I just either wipe, rub or rinse it off, but it's had so much use that it looks dry and dull. This wax is said to, "restores and enhances color," and it's definitely helped to restore my old board that I love so much.Application is easy, just a rub and buff technique, really. Or, you can get a little more in-depth with it, taking care to use the recommended oil first, and following the wax instructions to the letter. I was lazy--wax, meet board, boom. Still got good results.I've also used this wax on the wooden handles of my silicone brushes, and plan on using it on my very old but everlasting set of wooden tray tables.I like the product, but not sure what's going on with the price. It was listed at $6.99 when I ordered it, and it is now sitting at a whopping $11.95. The former price is reasonable for this product, but the new price is not. You can get a ton of food-safe oil and conditioner that's made for wood (like butcher block) for a much lower cost.-----I am reviewing the product, "Coconut Cutting Board Wax 4oz - Natural Blend of Oils and Waxes (NO Mineral Oil) - Condition and Protect Wood Cutting-Boards, Charcuterie Boards, Salad Bowls - Food Safe - Made in The USA" [sic].

This is perfect for waxing my wood board!

This is a high quality product that is easier to use because of the pushing of the wax up to use. I am using it on my Wood cutting board and it offers great protection. The size and design of the tube makes it easy to use.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I oil my cutting board?

Most wooden cutting boards should be oiled once every 3–4 weeks, or whenever the wood looks dry or lighter in color. Heavily used boards may need oiling more often, especially after frequent washing.

What’s the difference between cutting board oil and cutting board wax?

Cutting board oil penetrates deep into the wood to hydrate and prevent cracking, while cutting board wax seals the surface, helping repel water and stains. For best results, use oil first, then apply wax to lock in moisture and protection.

Will cutting board oil or wax change the color of my board?

Natural oils may slightly darken the wood, especially on lighter or dry boards. This is normal and helps bring out the natural grain and richness of the wood. The color typically evens out as the oil absorbs.

Do I need to wash my cutting board before re-oiling?

Yes. Always start with a clean, dry surface. Wash with mild soap and water, rinse thoroughly, and allow the board to air dry completely before applying oil or wax.
